Examples of our Work

The wellbeing and safety of all children and young people is of paramount importance to us, and is at the core of all our work and features in every session we deliver. We believe that learning, even about challenging topics, can be fun, and endeavor to ensure every workshop contains lots of laughter and opportunity for working together.

Exploding Emily

Exploding Emily is our new theatre production aimed at primary school aged audiences. It explores ideas around consent, body autonomy and the anxieties that come with growing up, using fun, interactive storytelling. This production is currently in development and our next sharing is at Tramshed as part of their Family Arts Festival on July 4th. For more information about this event, and to book tickets, book here. If you are interested in finding out more information about Exploding Emily, please contact us on info@unblurredlines.com.

Drugs and their Impact & County Lines - Years 5 & 6 - Harrow - 2019 - 21

Until March 2020, workshops were delivered in schools. Since then, and until Spring 2021, workshops are being delivered via Zoom. Each session is an hour long and covers key information about drugs and how they impact our lives, and the lives of those around us. We discuss safe and unsafe adults, and consider how peer pressure and bullying can alter the way we respond to difficult scenarios. We think about which trusted adults we could speak to if we felt worried about ourselves, or someone in our lives.

“I learnt that … there is always someone to trust” - workshop participant

The course providers were “unphased (sic)... by the new format” (in relation to online delivery) - staff feedback

Gender in Theatre - 13 - 18 year olds - the Tramshed and METRO Charity - 2020

For LGBT+ history month, we delivered a session on Gender in Theatre to young people at the Tramshed in Woolwich. We focused on the history of gender and sexuality and the presentation of these topics in a variety of different historical and contemporary plays, texts and pieces of theatre.

“I’d probably say each bit [of the workshop] was my favourite” - workshop participant

Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE) Awareness project - 12 - 16 year old girls - Wandsworth - 2019

This 9-week project was delivered in conjunction with Social Workers, a youth centre and a film-maker. We worked with a group of teenage girls to learn about drama, film-making and healthy and unhealthy relationships, with the aim of building self-esteem and confidence within the participants. The project culminated in the creation of a short film, the topic of which was chosen by the participants themselves. This film was showcased to the public and Council staff during the final session.

“I was able to express things that I could not have done before. Thanks to both of you” - participant feedback

Online Safety - Years 4, 5 & 6 - Harrow - 2018 - 19

Workshops, which ranged from 1 - 3 hours in length, covered different features of various online games and apps, and critical engagement about whether these features were good or bad.  We also explored the safety features of online games and apps, and applied this knowledge to real-life scenarios.

Healthy Relationships - Years 7 - 10 - Harrow - 2018 - 19

Workshops, which ranged from 1 - 3 hours in length, focused on consent, and identifying the differences between healthy and unhealthy relationships. We explored the meanings of various new terms, the behaviours present in healthy relationships of all kinds, how to know and express boundaries, and how to stay safe online. We then applied this knowledge to real-life scenarios.

Healthy and Unhealthy Relationships and CSE Awareness project - Pupil Referral Unit (Years 7 - 11 equivalent) - Wandsworth - 2018

This was a six week project that culminated in a performance to the students’ peers, their teachers and members of the Council.  Over the sessions, we developed the students’ Drama skills, while teaching and discussing consent, boundaries, and the types of behaviour that may be present in healthy (and unhealthy) relationships of all kinds. We used the skills and knowledge developed over the project to create short performances based on the topics each Year Group were studying with us.  The topics were Healthy and Unhealthy Relationships for Key Stage 3, the Gang Model of Grooming for Year 10, and the Boyfriend/Girlfriend Model of Grooming for Year 11.

“It was a pleasure to work with UL. Their professionalism and enthusiasm was very encouraging and clearly made a difference to our young people. If the opportunity arises to work again with UL, we would be delighted for them to come to our school again.” - staff feedback

80% of students reported feeling more confident in recognising whether a relationship was healthy or unhealthy, OR the signs of grooming in a relationship, in real-life [question dependent on Year Group] by the end of our project.

CSE Awareness Project & Production - Year 8 - Slough - 2018

This project worked with a cohort of Year 8 students to develop both drama and theatre and age-appropriate knowledge around the topics of consent and CSE. The participants created performance pieces based on the topic of CSE, which were then showcased at The Curve in Slough. Follow-up workshops looked at a range of theatre skills, building confidence and self-esteem, and training students to become Healthy Relationships Ambassadors within their schools.

These examples are not inclusive of all the workshops we can offer.  If you have an idea for a workshop you want delivered, or you have an issue or topic that needs addressing within your school, contact us on info@unblurredlines.com for more information.
